The first song needs no introduction. Written by Sting and released in 1983, “Synchronicity I” is the opening, eponymous track from the final and most successful album by the Police. This vigorous, sequencer-driven tune features lyrics that were inspired by Carl Gustav Jung’s famous concept of synchronicity, according to which some events occur with no causal relationship, and yet seem to be meaningfully related.
“Synchronicity I” made it to our tracklist at the very last moment. While preparing for the recording session, we actually covered a completely different song by the Police and turned it into a shoegazing anthem. Well, that did not work out at all. At some point our producer decided that we needed a proper Motörhead-ish opener, picked up a guitar, and we all rocked out like hell. About two hours later we had the song on tape. Who knows, maybe this is how the mysterious synchronicity principle (some call it “lucky break”) works.
lyrics
With one breath, with one flow
You will know
Synchronicity
A sleep trance, a dream dance
A shared romance,
Synchronicity
A connecting principle,
Linked to the invisible
Almost imperceptible
Something inexpressible
Science insusceptible
Logic so inflexible
Causally connectible
Nothing is invincible.
If we share this nightmare
We can dream
Spiritus mundi
If you act, as you think
The missing link
Synchronicity
We know you, they know me
Extrasensory
Synchronicity
A star fall, a phone call
It joins all
Synchronicity
It's so deep, it's so wide
Your inside
Synchronicity
Effect without a cause
Sub-atomic laws, scientific pause
Synchronicity

Fantastic album from front to back! Incredibly catchy, fuzzy riffs, great songwriting and powerful lyricism.
A classic of modern heavy psych / stoner music! Brett
