about

Our debut live EP “Rattlesnake Moan” (2016) featured a cover version of one of the best songs by the Beatles, “Tomorrow Never Knows”. This time we wanted to record a song written by Czerwone Gitary (The Red Guitars), a famous Polish band often referred to as “the Polish Beatles”. Established in 1965, the Guitars spawned several radio hits, sold hundreds of thousands of records, and built up a massive teenage following. We, however, decided to unearth one of their lesser-known pieces.

“Pejzaż miasta” (“City Landscape”) is a pretty obscure, non-album track, released as a single in 1972. Unlike most of the popular early-Beatlesque sweet songs about teenager love, which made The Red Guitars a huge act, this is a proper hard-rock tune, accompanied by some thrilling lyrics. With its overdriven guitar riffs and psychedelic wah-wah solos played against tribal drums and basslines, delivered by a classic power trio of Seweryn Krajewski, Bernard Dornowski, and Jerzy Skrzypczyk, the “Landscape” is easily comparable to none other than Mr. Jimi Hendrix himself.

Being ourselves, we added even more power, heaviness, and distorted riffs to the original version of the song. After all, Jimi Hendrix was born in Seattle, Washington, and so was one of our beloved music genres: grunge. Therefore we have reimagined the “City Landscape”, paying tribute to all the magnificent Seattle bands that shaped our teenage musical sensitivity in the golden, long-gone era of the 1990s.

lyrics

Nad pustą jezdnią dojrzewa świt
Trzepoczą słowa, trzaskają drzwi
Autobus rusza bez wolnych miejsc
Jest piąta rano, jest piąta pięć

Zaczęty przetarg, kto ile wart?
Tytuły gazet zbawiają świat
W wyścigu godzin, w pogoni chwil
Pulsuje zdarzeń codzienny rytm

Czarno-biały pejzaż miasta
W górze niebo, w dole asfalt

Przechodzą ludzie przez pełnię dnia
Te same twarze, ta sama gra
Te same słowa z tych samych ust
Wplątane w ostry klaksonów blues

Czarno-biały pejzaż miasta
W górze niebo, w dole asfalt

A potem szybkie uściski rąk
Rozmowy, które powietrze tną
Autobus wraca bez pustych miejsc
Jest siódma wieczór, jest siódma pięć

Czarno-biały pejzaż miasta
W górze niebo, w dole asfalt
